A bit of exercise really does make a difference!

The weather has been getting cooler (you might have noticed) ... and wetter...

This has meant I have felt less inclined to get out on the bike. Cold fingers, cold legs... being two of the main issues...

However mum needed something dropping into the doctors and some shoes picking up from the orthodontics clinic... so i took the opportunity to 'get on my bike'. It was chilly... it was fresh out there... but... it was nice to get back in the saddle too!

Before I got on the bike...

I'm sure you might recognise some of this chatter that goes on...

  • I kind of was leaving it a bit late to go around to the doctors...  almost so late that I would have to use the car
  • I have been fighting of a cold for about a week and have feeling particularly lethargic so maybe I ought to just take the car after all
  • It's been a bit difficult to focus over the past few weeks and it seems that there isn't enough time to squeeze in the exercise at the moment
  • Having not been on the bike for a while the tyres probably need pumping up, I haven't time for that
  • I've probably got a little bit out of condition with 3 weeks of very little exercise, perhaps I ought to do something a bit less strenuous to start

After the bike ride...

Well a couple of odd jobs when I got back for mum and then on to doing some work... I was just sitting there thinking what should I do first but before I did... I reflected on how I was now feeling.

It felt like the cobwebs had been cleared away... more energy... more positive... less procrastination... less like 'a bit overwhelmed' with everything I need to get done... It wasn't so hard... legs still retained a lot of the extra muscle built up over the summer... and although some hills to navigate it wasn't as bad as I thought.

Conclusion

Exercise is so important... not just because it actually gets your body working (something it was designed to do) ... but also because mentally I guess it aerates the brain... like opening the windows in the spring to let the air in... fresh set of oxygen... firing up the bits of the brain that perhaps needed a bit of stimulation.

It was such a significant difference once I reflected that it inspired me to write this blog post... more to come later as well... over 100 saved up blogs that I never have time to write... but I'm on it!
