First experience of a Liver cleanse
I'd not even thought about a Liver Cleanse before, nor had I really heard about it either for that matter. But Greg suddenly appeared from Poland on his way back to Peru. He came to stay for a few days at my flat to see his old school friend Steve.
Having got to know Greg he shared that he offered this Liver cleanse professionally in Peru and would I like to experience it for myself. Well, as you know I am always up for new experiences and so when Greg returned from a brief spell in North Wales we started... so that was Thursday 27th September.
The whole thing is delightfully simple and Greg is extremely knowledgeable both about the process itself, and of course how it works. Basically it is a 2 day programme... and by the start of the 3rd day the effects of the cleanse can be felt.
I was instructed to fast (nothing but water) from the end of Wednesday night... then at 6pm on Thursday in the evening I took delivery of 5 bottles of liquid... 4 bottles of Epsom Salts (magnesium sulfate) in solution... and one of Grapefruit juice mixed with Olive oil...

So here is what happened...
So 6pm first bottle of epsom salts... 8pm second bottle of epsom salts ... at this stage it is important to note that staying close to the toilet and not planning to do much is advisable.
10pm is when the magic happens... this is the bottle which does the work... grapefruit and olive oil... shaken (vigorously) not stirred... once emulsified down it went...
Now after this bottle it is important to lie horizontally and still on your back for 45 minutes whilst the solution goes to work. After the 45 minutes movement is then permissible however remaining in bed keeping warm is recommended...
Greg mentioned in the pep talk before we started that sometimes (50% at least of the time) people can feel nauseous during the night... often this happens at around 2am (in the morning)...
I did awaken during the night and after checking my watch it was 1:30am... I thought ok... great looks like the nausea wasn't going to apply to me as I felt fine... 15 minutes later I began to feel I was getting warm... and at 2am I was definitely feeling nauseous. It all happened very quickly and an immediate requirement to actually go to the toilet at the same time... somehow after that things quickly improved and after 10 minutes I was back to normal... Greg knows his stuff alright!
I awoke at 5:09am thirsty and quite tired physically... there had been a lot of action in the past 12 hours... and I had some strange dreams about parking tickets and worse...
3rd bottle at 6am ... this was difficult as I didn't really feel like drinking much at all... felt very full... the last two bottles seeming like a mountain to climb... however the first one down the hatch... just one to go...
Nothing happened... nothing at all as I rested in bed... the minutes ticked away... 8am loomed large... a call from Greg... who apologised for not reminding me of the 10pm grapefruit bottle... no worries I had drunk it...
Greg and I chatted about the events of the night... I explained nothing was happening... shouldn't I be pretty much cemented to the toilet at this stage... no no this is quite normal for many...
Funny thing now I'd drunk the second bottle of Epsom Salts for the morning... Still nothing... and my hunger had disappeared too... 9am arrived... time to prepare the meal for my return to food...
Raw carrots, sliced apple, sultanas and cider vinegar... no sooner the first mouthful... stirring in the stomach...
For me eating has always been a trigger for movement down there... this was going to be no exception...
7 explosive visits before 10:30am later... welcome Mr. Sore Bum...
Greg has overseen some 1500 Liver cleanses and was interested to see pictures of what had been excreted as this often tells a story... I must confess it felt rather weird taking these pictures but curiosity about what Greg would say got the better of me...
Although still fearing that further 'immediate' toilet requirements might be necessary I braved the journey to meet Greg and share the experience...
So what did Greg have to say? ... and how did I feel after the cleanse? ... do these things really work? ... what actually is going on during the cleanse?
